What is St. Margaret’s Doing in Response to COVID-19?

03/17/2020

COVID-19 (novel coronavirus)

 Here’s the latest updates:

Current statistics from Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) have identified 105 positive cases of COVID-19 in 15 counties in the state of Illinois.  Because of that, St. Margaret’s is adopting a no visitor policy to best protect all patients, staff, and visitors and slow down the spread of this disease.St. Margaret’s is maintaining normal business hours and will continue to care for patients. St. Margaret’s Hospital and Clinics will be reviewing upcoming appointments and may be contacting some patients to discuss alternative options other than a face-to-face visit.

We understand this will present hardships and challenges for both patients and families, but we feel this decision is critically important to protect the patients who have entrusted us with their care, their families, our staff, and the communities we serve.

Based on this, we have instituted the following, effective through March 30, 2020, unless otherwise stated:
  • Suspension of elective surgeries, elective procedures and routine testing.
  • Most wellness clinic visits have been postponed to a later date.
  • Effective today, March 17, 2020, if necessary, patients may have ONE individual accompany them to outpatient appointments. We are currently suspending ALL VISITORS in inpatient visitors.  Any expecting or new mothers in the Family Birthing Centre are allowed to have their significant other with them, but no other visitors.  Anyone else will be asked to wait in their vehicle.  These visitor rules will be STRICTLY ENFORCED. For patient and staff safety, we ask all others wishing to visit loved ones and friends use other methods to connect with patients (telephone, Face Time, Skype, etc.) Please consider these other means to connect if necessary.
  • Cafeteria is closed to the general public.
  • Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehab has been closed and patients rescheduled.
  • No outside food deliveries will be allowed.
  • The Patient Accounts Center lobby is closed.Any in-person payments can be made through the secure drop-box located at the entrance.
  • The Home Medical Equipment & Supplies showroom is closed to the public. If supplies are needed, please call them and delivery will be scheduled.

There is nothing more important than your health for you and your family.  We understand that these restrictions will be difficult for patients and their loved ones. We are taking these necessary steps to protect our patients and our staff.

If you are sick with COVID-19 or suspect you are infected with the virus that causes COVID-19, you should take steps to help prevent the disease from spreading to people in your home and community.  If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop a fever and symptoms, such as cough or difficulty breathing, call your healthcare provider for medical advice.
