Schedules appointments, tests ordered by the physician and pre-certify procedures with the patient’s insurance company. The Medical Assistant-Scribe will work closely with the RN or LPN in answering telephones, checking messages, cleaning up exam rooms, draw blood for laboratory tests. Responsible for assisting with making reminder phone calls to patients and running the “Unverified Encounters List” at the end of the shift; completing all unverified encounters. Prepares the EMR chart by searching for and opening each appropriate area of the chart for the physician to review prior to the patient encounter. In real time during the patient visit, opens the appropriate EMR templates and transcribe the physician’s medical dictations of the patient clinic visit.  In addition, responsible for transcribing the physician’s problem list and diagnosis into the EMR; enter medication order and diagnostic orders based on physician’s recommendations in the EMR for physician to review and sign. Transcribes physicians exam and finding in the EMR for physicians to review and sign.  At the physician request, documents all appropriate information for appropriate referral in the EMR.  Reviews and corrects overdue orders and tasks with the appropriate staff.

Education Requirements:

High School graduate or GED equivalent required. Certified Medical Assistant required or eligible for licensure. Requires medical terminology, ICD-9, CPT, Medicare regulations, and insurance billing guidelines are helpful. Requires typing and computer skills. Medical necessity and insurance eligibility is helpful. Good interpersonal skills a must. Phlebotomy experience preferred.  You must be familiar with medical necessity and checking E-Care for insurance eligibility.
