St. Margaret’s and IVCH propose formation of Regional Health Network
SPRING VALLEY, Illinois (March 4, 2019) –
St. Margaret’s Health in Spring Valley, a member of SMP Health System, and Illinois Valley Community Hospital (IVCH) in Peru have signed a non-binding Letter of Intent (LOI) to consolidate their healthcare operations and form a regional health network.
During a 3-D mammo, the X-ray tube moves in an arc over the breast—taking low-dose X-ray images. A computer then produces a 3-D image of the breast in slices, allowing the Radiologist to view the tissue in greater detail, resulting in earlier detection of small breast cancers.
St. Margaret’s Health is the first local hospital to offer Stryker’s robotic-arm assisted total knee application for use with its Mako System. This latest advancement in joint replacement surgery transforms the way total knee replacements are performed. This system can also be used for partial knee and total hip replacement.
We are proud to announce that St. Margaret’s Family Birthing Centre recently accepted the Gold Award for Quality from the Illinois Perinatal Quality Collaborative. The award celebrates the work we have done towards the Maternal Hypertension Initiative.

The Registered Nurse has the responsibility for the following: Completes all required patient assessments timely and accurately; completes discharge instructions or transfer information completely and accurately; completes all documentation accurately and timely; directs and assists non-licensed personnel; provides appropriate comfort measures and pain management; demonstrates knowledge of all wellness and disease management issues; administers medications accurately and timely; demonstrates competency in patient care procedures and use of pertinent equipment and supplies; executes accurate order entry, transcription of orders and signs off orders; provides patient education; initiates and updates patient plan of care; and promotes and assures patient safety.
The Nursing/Patient Care Coordinator reports to the V.P. of Nursing. It is this individual’s responsibility to assure that holistic patient care is delivered, which is in compliance with standards of professional nursing practice in a safe, respectful, individualized manner.

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) recognizes St. Margaret’s Hospital as an Emergent Stroke Ready Hospital within the state of Illinois. We are capable of providing quality stroke care and assisting in the delivery of care within the State of Illinois. This certification ensures that stroke patients of the Illinois Valley receive the right care, in the safest environment, when it matters most. As an Emergent Stroke Ready Hospital (ESRH), we diagnose, treat, and transport acute stroke patients to a higher level of care if needed. ESRHs must continually authenticate with IDPH their continue compliance with the required ESRH criteria to ensure the hospital satisfies these requirements 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
