St. Margaret’s Peru Medical Clinic

Your Health is in Good Hands

Mario Cote, MD and Todd Kuzma, PA-C provide high-quality care and are committed to providing their patients with the best care possible. Both providers offer comprehensive primary care services to adult patients.

Dr. Cote is a highly-skilled internist and geriatrician

Primary Care

Your primary care provider (PCP), along with a healthy diet and exercise, is one of the greatest assets for your health. Primary care should be the first choice for most non-emergent health needs. No matter where you live, PCP’s fulfill the same important role for your health care.

Before you select the option of a walk-in clinic or urgent care, schedule a checkup with your primary care provider for non-urgent issues and regular checkups.

  • Get to know you and understand your concerns
  • Make referrals to any specialists you may need
  • Consult and coordinate your care
  • Make sure you get the appropriate follow up
  • Make it a priority to provide care as soon as possible

Internal Medicine

An internist, or an internal medicine physician, is a doctor that specializes in internal organs and systems. However, it is important to note, an internist can also provide primary care services as well, as Dr. Cote does. An internist can treat patients for a wide range of illnesses, as well as help to manage and care for chronic diseases.

Geriatric Medicine

As a geriatrician, Dr. Cote also specializes in the unique health needs of the elderly. He aims to prevent and treat disease and disability in older adult patients, who often have complicated medical issues.

Pertaining to COVID-19 Testing:

Due to critical shortages of supplies, St. Margaret’s Health is no longer testing walk-in patients for COVID-19; a physician’s order IS REQUIRED. If you have been exposed to COVID-19, please isolate at home, wear a mask and IF symptoms develop, contact your physician to request an order to be tested.

Having symptoms? In order to be tested for COVID-19, Influenza (Flu), Strep, RSV, or to receive a Respiratory Array test, patients MUST have a doctor’s order. Contact your medical care provider. Please DO NOT visit the testing center in Spring Valley without a physician’s order, OR visit an Emergency Department for testing.

There are many sites throughout the Illinois Valley that are still currently testing without physician’s orders, although appointments may be required.  Please refer to local pharmacies and health departments websites, or visit for more information.

Thank you!
