Friends & Family:
St. Margaret’s Hospital and the American Heart Association will offer a CPR classes in the First Floor Presentation Room. The Friends & Family course is an adult and infant community CPR course and does not meet CPR certification requirements of employment or required professional credentials.
- The class cost is $20.
- Pre-registration is required by calling St. Margaret’s Hospital Occupational Health Department, at (815) 664-1486.
The class is for any health care provider, including lifeguards, firefighters and health care workers. It will be held in the hospital’s First Floor Presentation Room from 6-10pm.
- The class cost is $45, which includes the instructional book, and is conducted by American Heart Association instructors.

The class is designed for lay responders who are serving as rescuers as part of their job responsibilities and are not required to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). This could include police, firefighters, lifeguards, daycare employees, flight attendants, security personnel and any other lay rescuers and those who may have to respond in an emergency. The class is from 6-8:30pm.
- The class cost is $40.

The joint class is held every second and fourth Wednesday of the month in St. Margaret’s First Floor Presentation Room at 1 pm.
A Free Diabetes Education Class will be held at St. Margaret’s Hospital on the 1st Tuesday of each month from 3-4 p.m.
The class will cover an overview of diabetes, complications and monitoring, nutrition and diet, medications, stress management and social assistance, exercise and activity, and foot, skin and oral care.
Participants will also receive a free glucometer.

St. Margaret’s Prenatal/Lamaze classes for expectant mothers, called “1-2-3-4 What To Expect From Labor/Delivery and More,” will be held on Monday evenings (for four weeks) on odd months from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the First Floor Presentation Room at St. Margaret’s Hospital.
The four-week series of classes will consist of lectures on all aspects of pregnancy, including: stages of labor and delivery, techniques for pain relief, caesarian sections, medical interventions, Lamaze breathing techniques, conditioning and relaxation exercises, newborn care, breast and bottle-feeding and infant CPR. Films on childbirth, car seat safety, infant care and infant safety are shown, and a tour of St. Margaret’s Family Birthing Centre is provided.
Participants are asked to bring a blanket, two pillows, and a labor coach (support person). Expectant fathers are welcome and encouraged to attend.
- There is no charge for the classes.

Classes meet for four consecutive weeks. They are held in the St. Margaret’s First Floor Presentation Room, from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
(For 3-11 year olds preparing to welcome a new baby into the family)- Classes will be held at 10 a.m. in Room 309 at the hospital.

St. Margaret’s will hold a Mom’s Special Helper Sibling Class for soon-to-be big brothers and sisters on the first Saturday of even months at 10 a.m. in room 309 on the third floor of the Hospital. The class will be conducted through demonstrations and storybook readings. A tour of the Family Birthing Centre will be provided, and participants will receive refreshments, certificates, a gift bag and souvenir handouts. Parents are encouraged to sign up their 3-11 year olds.

Offered at St. Margaret’s Hospital in the hospital’s first floor Presentation Room, this is a state approved 15-hour course for the Illinois Food Service Safety Manager Certification. All food service facilities are required to have certified managers.
