St. Margaret’s Midwives

Maternity Services in LaSalle County

Midwives have been around for years, helping women through the exhausting, yet extraordinary process of childbirth. At St. Margaret’s Health – Peru, we have extended the services of our certified nurse midwives to women throughout the community. A midwife will talk with you one-on-one, get to know you and your health goals and guide you through numerous health care issues.

What Makes Midwives Unique?

The best way to describe midwifery care is that it is time intensive. We take the time to listen to you, encourage you and support you wherever you may be in life. We believe in having a partnership with the women and families for whom we care. From the moment we meet our patients, we begin to educate them on how to live healthy lives and prevent disease. It’s a growing relationship, and it’s one that often lasts for years.

How Will My Birthing Experience Be Different with a Midwife?

Pregnancy and childbirth are part of the life cycle. As such, everything that happens to a woman’s body during pregnancy, from fluctuating hormones and morning sickness to ligament aches and pains, is all natural. And while there are special cases where health risks occur and medical intervention is necessary, for the most part, your body knows what to do and it’s a safe process.

With that said, we as midwives believe in minimal intervention during childbirth, letting your body guide you through the process. Does that mean you’re on your own? Absolutely not! The best thing about having a midwife is that we are with you every step of the way, offering you support and helping you relax and maintain control over pain and contractions. The process is just as important as the outcome and we want you to walk away feeling you had the experience for which you had hoped you’d have.

In the event that a higher level of care is required during birthing, our midwives will work closely with a board certified OB/GYN.
