Cancer Care Support Groups

Several support groups in the areas of cancer and bereavement support are offered at St. Margaret’s. For more information on any support group, call (815) 664-1613.

Hospice

Hospice care supports terminally ill patients and their families for whom curative therapy is no longer possible or appropriate. Emphasis is put on the management of pain and other symptoms associated with terminal illness. Requests for hospice care are accepted from the patient, family or physician. Valley Regional Cancer Center

Valley Regional Cancer Center, owned by St. Margaret’s Health and a partner in the US Oncology Network, has professionals in medical and radiation oncology. These medical professionals work collaboratively to put together a suitable treatment plan for each individual patient. The center includes:

  • Laboratory Diagnostic Services for Determining Cancer Stage & Helping Radiation Treatment Planning
  • Imaging (Positron Emission Tomography Scan, or PET Scan, & computed tomography, or CT scan technologies)
  • Radiation Oncology
  • Illinois CancerCare Oncology

 

As a part of the US Oncology Network, Valley Regional Cancer Center is part of a network of over 1,400 affiliated physicians specializing in medical oncology, hematology, radiation oncology, gynecologic oncology, urology, oncology surgery and more. Partners and independent physicians within the network consult with one another and share resources and knowledge in order to offer patients the highest level of cancer care possible, close to home. 

Valley Radiation Oncology

Valley Radiation Oncology provides radiation treatments to cancer patients. The Center offers treatment via the Elekta SL15 Linear Accelerator, which was installed in the Spring of 2001. Radiation treatments last only seconds. Treatment planning is performed using a radiation therapy simulator, a block cutter and a new state-of-the-art treatment planning computer for 3-dimensional therapy planning. The Center is located at 4391 Venture Drive, Suite C, Peru, IL and is under the direction of Dr. Dotun I. Oyedijo, Board Certified Radiation Oncologist. Phone (815) 224-5511 for more information.
