St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley and Illinois Valley Community Hospital (IVCH) in Peru have finalized arrangements to consolidate their healthcare operations to form a regional health network.

SPRING VALLEY, Illinois (December 31, 2020)

St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley and Illinois Valley Community Hospital (IVCH) in Peru have finalized arrangements to consolidate their healthcare operations to form a regional health network. The organization will be known as St. Margaret’s Health and will be governed by SMP Health System. Effective January 1, 2021, IVCH will be known as St. Margaret’s Health-Peru, while St. Margaret’s Hospital will be known as St. Margaret’s Health-Spring Valley.

“We are extremely pleased that, after a two-year process, we have finalized the agreement to form one entity that will serve the healthcare needs of the Illinois Valley. We want to welcome our new colleagues from St. Margaret’s Health-Peru to the SMP Health System. We look forward to working together to create a vibrant healthcare network and enhance the care our patients have come to expect from us,” said Aaron Alton, President/CEO of SMP Health System.

“In coming together, we support a shared vision for the efficient delivery of high quality healthcare in the region. Our affiliation presents an exciting opportunity to enhance the services we provide, while also strengthening the financial health of the organization,” said Tim Muntz, President/CEO of St. Margaret’s Health. “A thorough assessment is currently underway to streamline operations and explore new services our communities may need. We expect this process to be completed within two years.”

Attention: ANYONE entering the hospital or any of our other clinics and locations must wear a mask over both the nose and mouth at all times while inside the building, including inside patient rooms.

Emergency Room:

  • ONE SUPPORT PERSON/VISITOR ALLOWED AT THIS TIME (no swapping out). This person must remain in the patient’s room.
  • Minors are allowed ONE parent/legal guardian in their room. This person must remain in the patient’s room.
  • For end of life/critical prior to transfer situations, two visitors who are over the age of 18 may be allowed at one time but must stay in the patient’s room.
  • All other persons must wait outside the building and the patient or support person/parent can contact them by phone.
  • No visitors or support persons will be allowed in rooms of COVID positive or suspected positive patients.
  • All meals for visitors/ support persons must be off campus as the cafeteria is open to employees only at this time.

Medical/Surgical/Pediatrics Unit and ICU:

  • Minors are allowed ONE parent/legal guardian in their room. This person must remain in the patient’s room.

  • We offer tele-health visits for COVID-positive or suspected positive patients.

  • The SO will be required to wear a mask at all times while inside the hospital and must get their temperature checked.
  • SO must remain in the room with the patient, and cannot be “swapped out” for someone else.
  • OB sonogram patients may have a SO accompany them in for the sonogram. If the patient is required to wait at any time in the waiting room, the SO must wait outside the building until the patient is ready to go back. This is so we can control the waiting room and reduce the risk to our patients.
  • All visitors must wear a mask over both the nose and mouth at all times while you are in the hospital, including inside the patient’s room.
  • All meals for visitors/ support persons must be off campus as the cafeteria is open to employees only at this time.

  • Staff will call the patient’s support person when the patient returns from his or her procedure and will be given a time to pick the patient up. Discharge instructions will be reviewed with the support person at this time.
  • Minors are allowed ONE parent/legal guardian in their room. This person must remain in the patient’s room.
  • All meals for visitors must be off campus as the cafeteria is open to employees only at this time.

Same Day Surgery (SDS):

  • NO VISITORS OR SUPPORT PERSONS AT THIS TIME (unless it is medically necessary).
  • ONE parent/legal guardian of pediatric patients may remain in the stall, or if the stall is needed, they will be sent to the waiting room (so they can be called back to recovery room, if needed).
  • Same Day total joint replacements will have a support person return to SDS once the patient returns to his or her stall to be included in post op education efforts.
  • All other SDS patients will have their support person meet them at the Main Entrance door upon discharge.
  • All visitors must wear a mask over both the nose and mouth at all times while you are in the hospital, including inside the patient’s room.
  • All meals for visitors must be off campus as the cafeteria is open to employees only at this time.

The health and safety of patients, family members and staff is our number one priority and we are closely monitoring the developing situation and taking a proactive approach to prevent the spread of viral illness. Thank you for your continued understanding.

As our employees and medical staff continue to work selflessly to provide care for our patients, the people of the Illinois Valley have demonstrated an understanding of the gravity of this pandemic and the risks it not only poses to our nation and world, but locally as well.

We thank all of you, including our local businesses and other organizations, for implementing and complying with every safety measure possible to protect our local hospitals and the most vulnerable people in our community.

We must remember this pandemic is not over. Though we know it can be a great challenge at times, we kindly ask that you continue to do your part to prevent the spread of COVID-19:

• Wear Protective Face Coverings
• Social Distance
• Stay Home Whenever Possible
• Cover Your Coughs and Sneezes with a Tissue or Your Arm
• Disinfect Frequently Touched Surfaces
• Wash Your Hands Often
• Follow the Rules and Guidelines Recommended by the Illinois Department of Health (IDPH) and the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC)

Please Wear Your Mask Correctly. Cover BOTH Your Nose & Mouth.
