Emergent Stroke Ready Hospital

St. Margaret’s Hospital is an Emergent Stroke Ready Hospital

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) recognizes St. Margaret’s Hospital as an Emergent Stroke Ready Hospital within the state of Illinois.  We are capable of providing quality stroke care and assisting in the delivery of care within the State of Illinois. This certification ensures that stroke patients of the Illinois Valley receive the right care, in the safest environment, when it matters most. As an Emergent Stroke Ready Hospital (ESRH), we diagnose, treat, and transport acute stroke patients to a higher level of care if needed. ESRHs must continually authenticate with IDPH their continue compliance with the required ESRH criteria to ensure the hospital satisfies these requirements 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The DAISY Award

Want to Say Thank You to Your Nurse?

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day.

The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way.

Each DAISY Award Honoree will be recognized at a public ceremony in her/his unit and will receive: a beautiful certificate, a DAISY Award pin, and a hand-carved stone sculpture entitled A Healer’s Touch.

Additionally, everyone in the unit will celebrate with cinnamon rolls – a favorite of Patrick’s during his illness. The Barnes Family asks that whenever and wherever nurses smell that wonderful cinnamon aroma, they stop for a moment and think about how special they are.

IDPH Clears St. Margaret’s Emergency Department Project

St. Margaret’s is pleased to announce that the Illinois Department of Public Health recently granted “Occupancy” to the second phase of the Emergency Room construction project.

The project, which began in May 2015, consisted of two phases that renovated the existing department and created an additional 4,200 square feet, ultimately doubling the size of the previous department. This created new exam rooms with updated fixtures and equipment, support areas, a much larger waiting room, a Results Pending Area, a Family Consultation Room, a new egress corridor, and much more.

St. Margaret’s is excited about offering a better experience for our patients and their families when they visit the Emergency Room.

FREE preventative services under the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)

Did you know you that you can receive FREE preventative services based on your age and sex? Most people don’t realize that plans they receive under the Affordable Care Act allow them free yearly preventative services. Don’t miss out on your “FREEBIE.”

What I’ve run into over the last 3 months (and I wish I had a dollar for every phone conversation I’ve had with people) where I’ve told everyone who called with a question about a plan on the exchange I told them that no matter which plan they select every person covered under it is entitled to preventative services based on their age and sex.  These preventative services are not counted against their deductible and for the most part all a person owes is the office co-pay amount.  What I’ve found out 2 years ago is that people who picked from the exchange were not taking advantage of their preventative visits because most of them didn’t realize it was a “freebie”.
